I am increasingly convinced that we are just about to witness dramatic changes in the way people move around cities and broader regions. For the last hundred years, mobility in developed countries was narrowly controlled: by governments that built infrastructure; by carmakers that built vehicles, and by oil companies that provided energy. This is changing at a rapid pace. Rising expectations by Baby Boomers and Gen Yers and advancements such as smartphones (including GPS and social media) have spurred the emergence of new mobility entrepreneurs that disrupt existing models to provide personalized, smart mobility solutions. Autonomous and connected vehicle technology, along with electrification of transportation will also facilitate innovation. The Mobi Prize will be an essential tool to recognize and encourage the true innovators at the vanguard of this movement.quote2
