  • Ideate and execute on local and global research that extends across all areas of driving safety: crashes, vehicle mechanics, road safety, etc.
  • Develop “incident anatomies”: rich descriptions of the human factors, external factors, cultural factors, regulatory factors, and so on, that present safety risks.
  • Identify cross-regional and region-specific root causes for safety issues.
  • Work with cross-functional internal stakeholders to improve tools and practices relating to safety research.
  • Interface with other team members to help formulate solutions, policy recommendations, and product changes informed by your findings.
  • Publish findings for internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of Uber’s safety research function.



  • 5+ years of experience in transportation research, accident investigation, or other safety science domains.
  • Master’s or PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., transportation engineering, human factors, industrial/organizational psychology, safety science).
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Statistical knowledge and experience with packages such as R, SPSS, and/or STATA.
  • Bias for action – we need to do things quickly, and we need to do them well.
  • A strong entrepreneurial spirit and amazing attention-to-detail.
