16.9.26 MAAS CORE GROUP MEETING

(11-1:30pm, The Gladwin Barn in Ann Arbor)

This was a deep dive meeting of MaaS core group members from Europe and Michigan and key SMART partners at “the Barn”. The purpose was to prepare for the week’s goals of identifying, accelerating and manifesting deployment/project/research collaboration opportunities among international delegates and the Michigan delegates.

Key Desires/Goals for this week

  • Develop ideas for research proposal on studying pilots/projects/field-tests.
  • Develop collaboration project with the US and Europe; how can we combine the models in the U.S. and integrate them in Europe
  • Networking and getting to know people on a personal level and make connections and build trusts
  • Develop new partnerships, potential proposals and opportunities for new projects
  • Industry matchup between Scandinavian and Michigan companies.
  • Explore the critical role of this MaaS talent. What is the vision and how can that vision be achieved?
  • Learn and share more about MaaS implementation – what is needed for cities to transition to ensure success of MaaS.
  • Recruit Bill Ford as keynote speaker for conference in Sweden. 😀

 

Goal for beyond the week

  • About MaaS- promote the thinking and reasoning and model on how things should be done
  • How to apply and generate new ideas, technologies and methodologies across different contexts
  • MaaS Implementation- Searching for any local facilitator who wants to expand their local activities in away that is interoperable between locations, countries.
  • Creating a view on scalability of MaaS
  • Identify project/pilots that focus on MaaS
  • Do comparative evaluations of MaaS projects across different cities.
  • Find and design models that are desirable and allow for applied research.
  • Need practical field tests for business models. Set them up in different cities. Interesting to look at different scales for comparison
  • Find resources to further the work being done on MaaS
  • Collaborative articles/ books/videos
  • Expand and further develop the MaaS Databank and Mobi Platform so that they can be more useful tools for this MaaS group
  • Exploring markets beyond Europe and US – Asia, Africa, South America etc.

 


16.10.30 MAAS CORE GROUP MEETING WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY

(9-11:30am, Ford Research and Innovation Center)

Members of the MaaS Consortium group met with representatives from the Ford Mobility Research team and Ford Credit team. The group members presented their projects and research respectively which led to very interesting discussion on challenges and opportunities in advancing MaaS implementation.

 


16.10.30 MAAS CORE GROUP WRAP UP LUNCH

(12-2:00pm, La Pita)

This was a focused action-oriented lunchtime discussion on identified project opportunities and next steps that arose out of the week-long activities.

Key Desires identified at the beginning of the week

  • Establish new connections and relationships
  • Generate and collaborate on new project proposals
  • Create scalable projects for evaluation
  • Design MaaS related models that are desirable
  • Design MaaS related models that have the ability to make a difference
  • Establish a consensus of an ideal city as it relates to MaaS
  • Establish what is needed in cities to ensure success of MaaS
  • Initiate a shared vision of MaaS
  • Initiate Industry Matchup between Michigan and Scandinavian countries

 

Summary of the week

  • The week helped solidify the relationship between consortium members and get a chance to deep dive into potential projects and the future directions of the MaaS Consortium
  • Helped better understand the difference and similarity between US and Europe contexts
  • Highlighted the opportunities and challenges in Michigan
  • Knowledge exchange and networking opportunities helped identify potential partners for future that represented a range of sectors.
  • Through future work ensure all stakeholders are involved in creating and integrating MaaS related initiatives

 

Opportunities Identified

  • Study and conduct pilot projects. Interesting leads in Michigan through this week. Possible collaboration with information technology companies (i.e. Covisint)
  • Study the 4 projects being funded across Europe and compare those with others that we are able to find.
  • Discussed potential projects for collaborative research work to advance the understanding and implementation of MaaS.
  • Publish a book which can be based on learning from all the cumulative MaaS research being conducted by members of the group
  • Develop a video/reality TV series around MaaS City challenge to accelerate implementation of MaaS and generate public discourse.

 

Next Steps

  • Keep Momentum – calls and in person meetings
  • Share information Get MaaS trending
  • Schedule individual follow-up meetings with Ford.
  • Contribute information on projects and research through the MaaS Form to populate the MaaS Databank
  • Opportunities to expand the group to include like-minded individuals like people from AutriaTech, Berlin, TFL, Berlin, etc. Discuss at next group meeting.
  • Differentiate from MaaS Alliance – Our focus remains on keeping a tight knit group that works on implementation of projects and applied research.
